HELP! We are surrounded by unstructured data

raysync

The global unstructured data is increasing at a rate of 50% every year, and with the development of the Internet and the arrival of the 5G era, unstructured data is now growing more rapidly.

What's unstructured data?

Unstructured data (or unstructured information) is information that either does not have a pre-defined data model or is not organized in a pre-defined manner. Unstructured information is typically text-heavy but may contain data such as dates, numbers, and facts as well.

At present, the recognized data in the industry reveals that structured data only accounts for 20% of the total data, while the rest is unstructured data including office documents, pictures, audio, design documents, etc., accounting for 80%. In other words, we are all "surrounded" by unstructured data.

What is the potential value of those easily overlooked unstructured data?

The unstructured data has a very staple commercial value. When we gather scattered unstructured data together, we will form complete data sets of users, commodities, contents, brands, etc., and form complete asset views and business views. After data gathering, we can analyze the data from different angles. We can go deep into the market to view the development prospect of the whole industry.

And the unstructured data is remarkably attractive, a very perfect data table is more attractive than a one-minute short video. The popularity of short videos over recent years is enough to prove it.

Why has unstructured data not received enough attention?

Looking behind, we did pay more attention to structured data. However, we did not intentionally ignore unstructured data, but were affected by some factors and had to shelve our exploration of unstructured data:

  1. The storage technology isn’t mature enough, the bulk of data is discarded
  2. The cost of data storage is high, the old data is always quickly replaced by the new one.

  3. The scale of the data is too big to transfer
  4. The value of the data will fully emit during the process of transferring, the transferring of the bulk data needs to overcome various influences including distance, network environment and so on.

Unstructured data brings us new chances

Due to the decreasing of storage cost and increasing of transfer technology, the accumulation and application of the unstructured data become possible. Raysync supports free switching between local storage and third-party cloud storage, it can satisfied the management requirement of data in multiple branches. Raysync is dedicated to meeting the needs of large data transmission within enterprises or with external partners, providing efficient and controllable large file acceleration transfer, ultra-long distance and transnational network data transfer.

As an integral part of the big data industry and even the main component departments, unstructured data will bring unprecedented development and opportunities once it is developed and mined. We will get a more completed and vibrant world when we can fully utilize and grasp the data.
